Apple and Cinnamon Scones

Image
Apple and Cinnamon Scones- fragrant spiced apple scones, delicious served warm with butter for afternoon tea. Jump to recipe Apple and cinnamon just belong together don't they? There's something very warm and comforting about the flavours and adding them to scones makes a winning combination. They are especially amazing when still warm and served with butter. Seriously, droooool! Once you've eaten one apple cinnamon scone, it's very easy to accidentally eat two, three, four! They're not too sweet so it doesn't feel like you're being too naughty. They are very easy to make in big batches and you can freeze them. So you could whip some out at very short notice and wow your guests with what a super host you are. I won't tell if you won't!

Apple Cake

Image
Apple Cake- a light, moist sponge cake flavoured with chunks of fresh apple and cinnamon. Delicious served warm with cream or custard for an autumn winter dessert. I am usually really good at finding interesting ways to use up any bananas that are on the turn (see here for my banana recipes ). But, when it comes to apples, I don't have that many recipes at my fingertips. You could make crumble with leftover apples but really, it's much better with cooking apples than eating apples. When I remembered that a few eating apples were lurking under a big bunch of bananas in our fruit bowl, I wasn't sure quite what to do with them. I decided to make an apple cake to use them up, rather than let them go to waste. I was very pleased when the apple cake turned out beautifully, all golden brown with little pieces of apple peeking out of the top. It has a lovely, soft texture and the apple pieces make it very moist. This apple cake works very well with slightly softened, eating apples...

Rhubarb and Apple Crumble

Image
Rhubarb and Apple Crumble- a recipe for the traditional British dessert. A sharp tasting apple and rhubarb fruit layer topped off with a sweet, buttery crumble. It's easy winter dessert recipe, served with custard. Jump to recipe Today's recipe is for a classic rhubarb and apple crumble. I grew up in a dessert family. We had all the usual traditional puddings: syrup sponge, crumble and so on. These days, my mum only really makes dessert when we are all visiting, as my dad claims he doesn't like "sweet things"... Funny how "sweet things" go missing on a regular basis when only he's around though... A case for Miss. Marple! Rhubarb and apple crumble is one of my favourite desserts to make, especially in winter. It takes very little effort and is always a crowd pleaser, something about the contrast of the slightly sweet but sharp rhubarb and apple against the sweet crumble and custard. Mmmm!
